Join us for our 4th annual hops production field day/open house, June 14th, 2019.

Topics include hops handling for quality and food safety, scouting for pests and pathogens, a review of our cultivars, and much more. All for $35 - lunch included! You must register through this link by June 10th: https://tinyurl.com/VCE-2019-HOP

Morning program starts at the Virginia Tech, Urban Horticulture Center - 1004 Old Mill Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060. Lunch (included) and afternoon sessions will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn – 900 Plantation Road, Blacksburg VA 24060 (less than 2 miles from the hop yard!)

Program
9:00am- Welcome/ introductions, overview of the research program and hop yard (Holly Scoggins) –1004 Old Mill Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060
9:30am- Pest & disease issues on hops, resources available, scouting techniques, and sample submission protocol (Elizabeth Bush & Eric Day)
10:00am- Walk the yard- discuss cultivar trials, layout, and growing practices used
10:40am- Irrigation considerations- discussion of our system & newest publication (Daniel Jackson)
11:10am- Utilizing the USAHops food safety module to self-assess your hop yard (Laura Siegle and Holly Scoggins)
11:40am- Harvesting and processing hops- demonstration and discussion of our hop harvester and hoast (Daniel Jackson & John James)
12:15pm- Depart for Hilton Garden Inn (900 Plantation Rd, Blacksburg, VA 24060)
12:30pm- Lunch
1:00pm- Agritourism and liability concerns (Kelli Scott)
1:30pm- Brushup: Basic weed ID and review of the rules for legal pesticide applications (Laura Siegle)
2:00pm- Designing a pesticide spray schedule (Daniel Jackson)
2:30pm- Adjourn for tour of Eastern Divide Brewing (3175 Commerce St, Blacksburg, VA 24060)
